'The Division' Is Finally Going Crazy With Its New Patch 1.3 Gear Sets

The Division wasn’t exactly a majorly featured component of E3, with only a brief section during Ubisoft’s press event to show off bits of two upcoming pieces of DLC, Underground and Survival.

But a few things did trickle out throughout the course of the show, including a bunch of weapons and four new gear sets in particular that are going to be coming in a future 1.3 patch (we’re on 1.2 right now).

All the new names and perks of the sets are known, and for me, this marks the first time that Ubisoft is going absolutely crazy with these new sets. Previously, we’ve seen a few pretty boring perks like damage stacking, crit/armor damage/elite damage, things like that. But now? We’re finally getting into full-on Diablo territory where these sets are changing fundamental aspects of the game. We saw a bit of this in the 1.2 gear sets (I love my never-reload Lone Star set), but now? Almost all of them are that creative.

B.L.I.N.D.

2 pieces – 100% Pulse Critical Hit Damage
3 pieces – 100% Blind/Deaf Resistance 4
pieces – Kills cause flashbang explosions

This is certainly one of the coolest sets, mostly due to its final perk (and the fact that it has a B.L.I.N.D. special rifle as well). Pulse CHD is certainly useful, but a bit boring. Blind/Deaf immunity is really only good for a scarce handful of situations. But kills causing a flashbang? I can easily see how a group using mostly this perk could chain stun-lock entire groups of enemies. Paired with a stun sticky of their own, I can see situations where entire instances full of enemies can never see the light of day before they die.

Firecrest

2 pieces – +3 Incendiary Bullets
3 pieces – 100% reload speed
4 pieces – Killing an enemy with fire grants 10 seconds of Incendiary Bullets

This is probably the weakest of the new sets, but I like what they’re trying to do at least. 100% reload speed will probably give a massive (at least statistical) DPS boost, but I can’t help but wish one of these perks had to do with the fire bomb or the flame turret. Basing something off of Incendiary Bullets alone is a little weird, though paired with the Reclaimer set, this is going to be madness. I’m wondering if “killing an enemy with fire” means that the burn damage has to kill them, or if it’s “killing an enemy on fire,” which would be much, much more useful.

Front Line

2 pieces – +300% Ballistic Shield Health
3 pieces – +100% Ballistic Shield Damage resistance
4 pieces – Can use SMG with Ballistic Shield

Oh god, here we go. Finally, a build to make the Ballistic Shield viable (if all the bugs with the shield are fixed as well). I’m imagining a terrifying group of four with these uber-shields and min-maxed SMGs just tearing through everyone and everything, unwilling and unable to die. The SMG seems like a bit of an odd choice, as I thought shotguns or LMGs might be a better fit here, but we’ll see how it works in practice. These seems like it could be the strongest set here, but there’s also…
