BUNGIE CLARIFIES WHETHER DESTINY IS FREE ON XBOX

The base game version of Destiny has appeared as free on the Microsoft Store, but, according to a statement from Bungie, players will not receive the full original game as part of the digital version's price change.

A statement posted on Bungie's website states that downloading the free version of Destiny will only entitle players to the game's trial mode. To play through the original full adventure, the upcoming Destiny: The Collection must be purchased.

The statement reads:

"The original Destiny adventure may appear to be free on some digital console marketplaces. "While players may download the Destiny base game, they will only be granted access to the Destiny Trial Mode for free. If players wish to progress through the original Destiny adventure via digital download, they will be required to purchase Destiny - The Collection to gain access to this content."

Destiny: The Collection will be released alongside the game's newest expansion, Destiny: Rise of Iron, and will combine the new DLC pack and every major previous DLC update to Destiny in one package.

Bungie recently revealed more about the upcoming expansion at Gamescom 2016 and announced that private PvP matches would come to the game alongside the Rise of Iron release (though players will not have to purchase the new DLC to access that new feature).

Rise of Iron will only be available to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 players. Destiny: The Collection will release for the PS4 and Xbox One on September 20.
